LOL truevyne! Oh dear, now you are spoiling all of my illusions.

Actually, I've been on both sides of the issue enough to know that there isn't necessarily any place where the grass is greener. I just wish that my OWN grass was! Or even if it wasn't, that there would be a field somewhere (anywhere?!?) with a big sign on it that said "REALLY GREEN GRASS RIGHT HERE & GUARANTEED 100%"

@ Duckworth: ah yes: "Life is a series of interruptions interrupted by interuptions"

@ Ann: Thanks so much for commenting (and relating!) I am not sure which kind of mother I connect to the best (those working outside the home, or working full-time within it). I do think there is something seriously broken in the whole scheme of things, though... and that it is vitally important for mothers to acknowledge, for themselves and other mothers, how difficult and even uncomfortable the pull between these various roles can be.

I really relate to your question "I keep looking at my friends who don’t work outside the home, and I wonder why I can’t be happy being just like them?" I have been a full-time employee for only a few years of the 20 that I have been a parent, working part-time, on the periphery and completely on my own for the rest of it, yet the women who I connect with best are those who work and I struggle to connect with those who don't - even though we have this huge thing in common of being moms. Why is that, I wonder?
