I don't get it either. I think they sell because they are cute, and people feel cute eating them, and Bakers are more than happy to push them because they are so easy and cheap to make. I'm not falling for it. If i'm going to spend lots of money at a bakery, i want to be on something amazing that i couldn't make at home for $2.00 a dozen, in 10 minutes. Boo cupcakes!

I'm also a muffin type of girl (specifically: blueberry), but I've experienced a really good cupcake before - my friend's mum made Spanish Lemon-flavoured ones which apparently contains olive oil instead of butter, so it's a lot lighter. And somehow, the buttercream goes perfectly with the zesty citrus flavour.

Thanks for stopping by, Cassandra! You have a lovely blog -- go check it out, everyone.

Yes, The Cupcakery (There. I've named it.) serves tea and coffee and have two or three tables in front of the cupcake display case for their patrons to sit and enjoy.

I tried a cupcake from "Local Shop No. 1" but found it to be delicious. Then again, I am easily amused. Now I'm super excited about this superior Shop No. 2! They even serve tea?!

Great word, "Lummox." And I sense the beginnings of a trendy new apothegm here: "Like a lummox in a cupcake shop"

(apothegm being another great word.)

How do the well-dressed, fashion-conscious women (who appear to be the intended consumers) eat the damn things? I get crumbs all over myself, frosting on my nose, and sticky fingers. Since I'm pretty much a slob, this doesn't matter, but for the tres chic with expensively done nails, this has gotta be a problem. I'd kind of like to hang around one of these joints and see how they do it.

And another thing: I'm a great big lummox of a guy and when I walk into these dainty little shops with their bows and flowers and little teacups I feel like I'm gonna break something.
