Nanci Griffith & the Dalai Lama
July 06, 2008 By: almostgotit Category: Nanci Griffith, Uncategorized, polyvoreWhen Mr. Almostgotit and I were married, way back in the stone age, we bought a Nanci Griffith cassette and played it until it wore out. Many years later, we went to see her in concert, one of the only live concerts I’ve ever been to.
Today is Nanci’s birthday, and since it’s still the holiday weekend and since I’m still playing with Polyvore.com, see, I made her a birthday card.
Q. So, what do Nanci Griffith and the Dalai Lama have in common?
A. Today is the Dalai Lama’s birthday, too, so I didn’t want him to feel left out.

At our house we call this phenomenon “Worlds in Collision,” and we are connoisseurs of it.

You remind me of the great line from Seinfeld. George having a fit when his parents meet his business partner. “Worlds colliding, Jerry. WORLDS COLLIDING!!”

Here’s a good one: Sing the Prologue from Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales in the style of Tammy Wynette (Whan that aprill with his shoures soote/The droughte of March hath perced to the roote, etc.)–not only with proverbial feeling, but also some twang!. I have been known to perform this after, ahem, enough adult beverage is administered.

This I must see. Adult beverage on me!
