My son, the College Boy Man

Nine days. That’s how much longer we have as a family of four sharing the same house. I’m not ready.
I still haven’t made him that giant flannel bulletin board I was planning, the one on which he could arrange little felt roads and cars and houses and trains to his heart’s content. I still have a couple of toddler-sized overalls in my mending basket too (because, who ever actually MENDS, anyway?)
And what about that cross-country train trip we wanted to do at some point? We totally forgot to do that! Never made it to Disney World, either. I guess I’m not too broken up about Disney World, but Universal Studios might have been fun.
Bear-bear is still wearing the pajamas I made him, though, and they still look new. They should, as they were part of the matching set of pajamas I made for both of them just last Christmas, when my son was seven.
This summer we’ve managed to teach him how to make a bank deposit, at least, and last year he finally learned how to do laundry. Sometimes he even remembers to close the front door after he’s used it, too.
And today, he’s gone in to vote in the county elections. They let seven year olds do that now?
I guess I don’t know very much about anything, any more.

Good mama.

There’s still time for the giant flannel bulletin board. What every dorm room needs! Congrats to your son, who will always be your baby, no matter how old he gets….

I was SURE I would be granted an exception by the Fairness Committee so my oldest would revert to age 7, and his brother to 4–that was a great year. Sadly, we packed him up and off he went to school. The good news is that he and his wife just had a little daughter, and THAT is fun–for me; they are exhausted. I remember that….

Such a cute bear! Perhaps he and my Rabbit can have some adventures together someday …

Thanks Marsquat — you are a Good Mama yourself!
@ WG: Hey, you’re right about the dorm! I need to go over and totally paint and decorate it for him too, huh?
@ Kathy: where is that Fairness Committee when you need it? And I still can’t believe you have a granddaughter. That means… oh my goodness, they let seven year olds do that these days?!
@ James: Actually, Bear-bear and Rabbit sound as though they have a fair amount in common. While Bear-bear has never (to my knowledge) written horrible messages in blood, he has worked a couple of tours as a Nazi soldier.

They grow up so fast, don’t they? I’m not a mama, but I’m the same way with my lil sis. It seems like only yesterday she was following me around everywhere and annoying the crap out of me. Now I can hardly pull her away from her friends. *sniff*

Oh, dear. College at seven? I knew that boy was smart. I didn’t even know he graduated, so congrats. Where’s he going to study? Are you sure they’ll let Bear, bear come too?

Oh, they grow so fast. Good luck to the half-empty nester…so so sad.
My youngest is going to Kindergarten and I feel like I will never be the same.

They DO grow up fast! Kindergarten is a biggie, too. Younger sibs are good practice, too, I think (I’m the eldest of four myself)

I have 2 years to go for our son and 3 for our daughter and I cannot imagine how I am going to do it!
That’s why we are moms though, we can handle it since we start talking about it and processing it early.
My husband on the other hand, will probably tell me I’m being silly, I knew the day would come. He won’t say much about it – until they are gone, then he’ll mope like he does if they have a sleep over.

Why did this bring sudden tears ?
