Almost Expendable?
May 05, 2009 By: almostgotit Category: UncategorizedEver feel like Ensign Ricky? He’s the guy with hardly any lines who appears in just one episode only to be killed off so all the other characters can live to beam another day.
Women feel like this a lot more then men do, especially women who are wives, and ESPECIALLY wives who also moms. Subverting your own interests for everyone else’s is only called “virtue” when someone else is doing it: when you’re doing it yourself, it only works if you believe that actually you’re pretty darned important, even while serving as the Sacrificial Lamb.
Otherwise, you’re pretty much just dogshit.
HUSBANDS, TAKE NOTE.

Does that mean i can stop doing all the stuff around the house on top of my 48 hours work week because frankly no one seems to notice i do it or care? Jigging my work around the needs of my kids? It’s okay if i work myself into the grave because no one gave me the choice of being the main bread winner with all its attendant stresses and strains both physically and psychologically? Men feel this way all time but aren’t allowed to talk about it ad infinitum because no one listens or cares. And do you notice in star trek it is almost always a guy in the red shirt? The disposable shirt? Have you ever noticed too what a shit day father’s day tends to be?
Phew Almostgoit…thanks for the chance to get that off my chest!

You’re welcome, Fr. Dave! And yes, I *HAVE* noticed it’s almost always a guy….not many women are even allowed in Star Fleet, unless they know how to use the intercom.

I am guffawing. No LOL here, but genuine guffawing. The kind that makes mascara run. First at the poster. Living in a house with ALL males (dog included), I am subjected to a fair amount of sci-fi television. We are masterful at identifying the Ensign Ricky character, and we in fact refer to them as ex-PEND-able (you must say it like that). Second, for reasons I can’t get into just now, your post happens to resonate with me a great deal at the moment. And third, I really enjoyed Fr. Dave’s response, too!!! And your reply to it!!!
Cheers!

Wait, I know the answer to this … ummm … which one is not coming back …. ummmm … it’s Kirk, right? He looks like a risk-taker!

I get what you are saying. Completely. Because I am a wife and a mom. The main trick for me is finding ways of getting my needs secretly met while outwardly sacrificing. Shhhh…don’t tell him about that pedicure…I want him to think I was on my feet cleaning all day…see, are you getting how this works?

I think you’re pretty darned important. And it sounds like you need a vacation. All by yourself.
