My last serious job was also fundraising for a private foundation. I loved the work and amazed myself at being good at it. It's funny how you can look and look for the right job, and then it falls in your lap without doing a single thing.

That tends to be my experience with finding jobs. I bat my head against the wall, and then one day, through nothing I have done - but always through a friend - the right job comes. Keep hope!

Encouraging Words, Xpat, and thanks so much for writing them. This has been my experience, too, but it's sure a lot more believable when you are looking at it in the rearview mirror, sigh! Cheers to you --Almostgotit

First of all, congrats on the gig. I say that because I KNOW the angst caused by unemployment. Until 1/1/07, I was a Broadcast Journalist in Houston...More specifically, I was the Managing Editor at a comedy based news and talk station which went "tits up" and flipped to all sports at the first of the year. We all lost our gigs and I was jobless and in a way, I still am.

I've decided to say to hell with ALL aspects of Broadcast and have elected to write full time...my first passion. And I'm doing quite a bit of free lancing. As you well know, that's hardly a secure gig and the money is and sporadic at best.

You're right...we're smart and savvy and hip and darn good writers. I also consider myself to be able to make a few people laugh on occasion. Even so, why were we unemployed so long? It's been hard not to take every damn letter of rejection personally. Nothing started to happen until I was true to myself. Until that I point, I think I had to go through Dante's 8th Circle of Hell (which is EXACTLY what 2007 has been) because I needed to learn an important life lesson and the point had to hammered home with a healthy dose of fear AND self reliance.
If that's the case, I have my Master's of Life!!!
You're a great writer. I will come back more.

Best,
Laurie Kendrick

Laurie -- thanks so very much for your words. I treasure each one of them, am cheering you on (as only one who's "Been There" can!) and do hope you *will* come back soon! Hurray for your own Master's! It's from the best school there is.

Hey, I'm so excited to hear you got a job! Was this one you wanted? Keep up your excellent blog for all who are in it like you have been. You are their lifeline and confidant. I love the recipes also. I will certainly look at "bombed-out brownies!
